Two football matches have been postponed after a number of players tested positive for coronavirus.

Sunday’s cinch Championship match between Partick Thistle and Greenock Morton has been postponed after the Thistle side were unable to take part due to players injured or self-isolating.

A request by Thistle to postpone the match was granted by the SPFL on Saturday.

Queen’s Park also had a request to postpone their January 2 cinch League 1 game with Clyde granted due to Covid cases.

In a statement, the SPFL said new dates for both matches will be confirmed in due course.

A statement on Thistle’s website read: “Our cinch Championship fixture against Greenock Morton has been postponed following positive Covid tests within the Thistle squad.

“The number of positive tests, in addition to the current number of injuries within the team, left the club unable to fulfil tomorrow’s match with Greenock Morton.

“The individuals will not be named due to medical confidentiality and those affected with now self-isolate in line with current protocols.”

Queen’s Park said in a statement: “The SPFL this afternoon confirmed that, following a request received from the club, our cinch League 1 game with Clyde, due to be played tomorrow, Sunday 2nd January, has been postponed.

“This is due to Queen’s Park not having sufficient players available to fulfil the fixture due to Covid cases.”
