Raith Rovers announce departure of management team John McGlynn and Paul Smith

Raith Rovers have confirmed the departure of manager John McGlynn and his assistant Paul Smith after four years at the Kirkcaldy club.

The former Hearts manager will end his second spell at Stark’s Park after guiding them to fifth in the Championship during a chaotic season dominated by the controversial signing of David Goodwillie in January.

McGlynn, who also had a spell as Livingston manager, gained promotion to the Championship by winning the League One title in 2019 and won this season’s Challenge Cup.

During his first spell with the Fife club, six years between 2006 and 2012, he also won League One (then called the Second Division) and reached a Scottish Cup semi-final.

In 2011 he was named the PFA Scotland manager of the year after just missing out on promotion to the Premiership.

He has also been inducted into the Raith Rovers hall of fame.

The club say they are actively looking to appoint a new manager with immediate effect.

A statement released on Tuesday said: “The Board of Raith Rovers FC can today confirm that Manager John McGlynn and Assistant Manager Paul Smith will depart the club by mutual consent as their Rovers contracts expire later this month.

“We offer of thanks to John and Paul for their service to the club, and salute their achievements since returning to Stark’s Park in September 2018.

“The Board can also confirm that we will be actively looking to appoint a new management team to take the club forward, and will be starting the recruitment process with immediate effect.”
