Raith Rovers have invited a teenage fan who was assaulted by a group of rival supporters to a training session with the first-team.

If he accepts the invitation, the 18-year-old will also join players on the team bus for their trip to Airdrie at the weekend.

The incident took place following the Fife Derby match against Dunfermline Athletic on Tuesday evening, when the teen was attacked while waiting for a bus home.

A video of the assault was posted on social media, with the attack widely condemned by both teams.

The victim’s hearing aids fell out during the attack and were broken as he was punched and kicked while on the ground.

Dunfermline supporters group Section North West have offered to replace the damaged hearing aids.

Police have since confirmed that a 17-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Reacting to the incident, Raith Rovers manager Ian Murray said: “It’s never nice to see at all – a young guy going to the football and that happening to him, it’s just ridiculous to be honest. I think it probably took the shine off of our victory on Tuesday. It’s never good.

“There’s a lot of these things happening lately and I don’t know what’s going on. It’s just not right, it leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

“We’ll hopefully have the young man in here tomorrow, we’ll give him a nice day and something for him to remember but it’s come about in really horrible circumstances.”
