Celtic full-back Anthony Ralston has been called up to the Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifier against Denmark.
He has been drafted in by Steve Clarke after a yellow card for Nathan Patterson meant the Rangers player is suspended for Monday’s match at Hampden.
Ralston’s call-up is his first to the senior side and comes after the 22-year-old has established himself in Ange Postecoglou’s side with a series of strong performances this season.
“Any time I’ve seen him for Celtic this season he’s been really impressive,” Clarke told newspapers.
“I did try to call him up to one of the previous squads but unfortunately a Covid issue put paid to that.
“It’s nice to have him here now.”
Motherwell’s Stephen O’Donnell is already in the squad and is expected to start the game.
“Nathan Patterson and Stephen O’Donnell have both done well for us in the right wing-back position,” Clarke said.
“Celtic obviously play in a different way to us but Tony has attributes that could make him a good wing-back or right-back.
“It will be good to have him in the camp and we’ll have a good look at him in the training sessions.”
Scotland sealed a World Cup play-off place with their win in Moldova on Friday but are likely to need something from the Denmark game to ensure seeding when the draw is made. The Danes have qualified for Qatar 2022 as group winners and have won every qualifier so far.
