Rangers announce signing of midfielder Cammy Devlin on two year deal

Rangers has signed midfielder Cammy Devlin on a two-year deal, with the option for an additional year, the club has announced.

The Australian international joins following the expiration of his contract with Hearts, where he will reunite with manager Derek McInnes.

Devlin made over 150 appearances for the Edinburgh outfit and was a central figure for the side in the last campaign as they recorded the highest Scottish Premiership points tally in the club’s history.

The Sydney-born midfielder progressed through the youth ranks of Sutherland Sharks and Western Sydney Wanderers before moving on to pastures new in Sydney FC, where he featured in the A-League and Asian Champions League.

Wellington Phoenix soon swooped for his signature in 2019, enjoying two years in New Zealand before Hearts came calling in 2021.

On the international stage, Devlin made his debut for Australia in 2022 and was selected in the Socceroos squad for the FIFA World Cup later that year in Qatar.

He has been capped five times by his country, with his impressive displays for Hearts last season earning him inclusion in the Australia squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup as the side made a run to the Round of 32 in North America.

Devlin has become the sixth addition of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur and Dan Neil.

Speaking after making the move to Ibrox, Devlin said: “It feels amazing. I am obviously so happy to get it over the line; with the gaffer coming here and a lot of change happening at the club, it feels like a great time to be coming here.

“It is just an absolute honour and privilege; I am so aware, being in Scotland for a while now, the size of the club and everything that comes with playing at such a massive football club.

“To call myself a Rangers player now feels pretty special and I just cannot wait to get started.”

Manager, Derek McInnes, added: “Cammy is obviously a player I know, and I am well aware what he will offer to Rangers.

“His levels of consistency for me were superb, and he is the type of player that every manager wants in his team.

“He is someone who knows the Scottish league, and nothing will surprise him with what lies ahead. I am looking forward to welcoming Cammy to Rangers and working with him again after he returns from his holiday.”
