Rangers have defeated Livingston 3-0 at Ibrox to cut the gap at the top of the Premiership.

Philippe Clement’s men are now just three points behind league leaders Celtic and still have a game in hand over their city-rivals.

That means they can now go top of the pile on goal-difference with a win over Aberdeen in Glasgow on Tuesday night with the Hoops not playing until the following night when they take-on Hibs at Easter Road.

Victory with a three-goal margin over the managerless Dons will be enough to put Rangers into pole position with Celtic currently three points and two goals better off.

It comes after Brendan Rodgers’ side dropped two points after being held to a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie in Saturday’s early game.

That gave Rangers a boost as they came into the game against the league’s bottom side less than an hour after the full-time whistle in Aberdeen.

It was one-way traffic for the whole 90 minutes with Rangers having 32 shots in goal in contrast to Livingston who failed to register a single shot at Jack Butland’s goal.

On loan Wolves forward Fabio Silva put the home side in front with his first goal since arriving from the English Premier League club at the start of January.

Rabbi Matondo then doubled the lead with a strike in first-half injury to all but secure the three-points against their struggling rivals.

And they made it 3-0 ten minutes into the second-half when Todd Cantwell scored to put the game beyond David Martindale’s men.

Deadline day signing Oscar Cortes came off the bench to make his debut for the club in the second-half.

Livingston remain six-points adrift at the bottom of the pile following their 13th defeat of a 16-game winless run that dates back to October 7 when they beat Motherwell.
