Rangers have announced that captain James Tavernier has signed a new extension to his current deal.
The 30-year-old said it was a “no brainer” to get the deal over the line and revealed he is excited for what the future holds.
Tavernier signed for the club when they were in the Championship in 2015 and has since cemented his name into the Ibrox history books.
During his seven years in Glasgow, he has scored 85 goals from right back while captaining Rangers to the Premiership title in 2021 and Europa League Final in 2022.
After helping the club clinch promotion to the Premiership he was handed the armband on a permanent basis by former manager Steven Gerrard in 2018 before the pair led the team to the league trophy two years later.
He has also won the Scottish Cup as skipper and is now the last player remaining from their four-year spell in the lower leagues.
Following on from Tuesday’s night 2-2 against PSV, he is also just one big performance away from leading Rangers into the Champions League group stages.
The club confirmed on Wednesday that he has now committed to a new deal which will “take him well into his thirties as a Ranger”.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Tavernier said: “I just want to spend more years here and have that security.
“It is such a great place to play football and I can’t wait to see what the coming years have to bring.
“I am settled here, my family are settled here, so it was a no-brainer to get the contact extension over the line.”
