Scotland Under-21 defender Lewis Mayo has joined Kilmarnock on a season-long loan from Rangers.

The centre-back will be part of Derek McInnes’ squad as Killie return to the Premiership and aims to get further first team experience away from Ibrox.

“I’m delighted to join Kilmarnock,” Mayo told the club website. “It’s a really exciting opportunity and I’m looking forward to big season for both me and Killie.”

The 22-year-old has been with Rangers since 2010 and has had previous loan spells, with Dunfermline and Partick Thistle. He has played for Scotland’s Under-17 and Under-19s, and has nine caps at Under-21 level.

Kilmarnock manager McInnes was delighted to have sealed the deal.

He said: “Lewis started really well in his loan spell with Partick last season and showed signs that he’s clearing improving.

“We look forward to working closely with him to develop him and I’m sure he’ll help us in the challenges ahead.”

Kilmarnock’s first competitive match is in the League Cup on July 9 when they travel to play Fraserburgh.
