Rangers have eased past Dumbarton to book their place in the Scottish Cup fifth round draw.

Philippe Clement’s side kept their domestic treble dream alive with a victory over the League Two side in the rain on Saturday.

John Lundstram and Cyriel Dessers gave the Premiership side a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time in West Dunbartonshire.

Captain James Tavernier made it three from the penalty spot in the closing stages and put the game well beyond Dumbarton.

Matthew Shiels grabbed a late consolation for Dumbarton before Scott Wright restored the three goal advantage with a goal in his 100th appearance for the club.

They now join the likes of Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen in the fifth round draw that will take place after Celtic vs Buckie Thistle on Sunday.

Having already won the League Cup this season they are now only four wins away from adding the Scottish Cup to the trophy cabinet.

They also currently sit eight points behind Celtic in the Premiership but have two games in hand and can reduce the deficit to five in their return to league action against Hibs at Easter Road on Wednesday.

Rangers dominated much of the first-half but had to survive a couple of early scares against the side sitting fourth in the fourth-tier of Scottish football.

Lundstram headed home the opener after 35 minutes at The Rock in the game that was passed a pitch inspection on Saturday afternoon.

Dessers doubled the lead six minutes later to put the Ibrox side on easy street for the rest of the game.

Rabbi Matondo nearly made it three in the opening stages of the second half but his strike was deflected wide of the post.

The game was put to bed when Tavernier stepped up to slot home a penalty with just over ten minutes remaining.

Shiels struck with two minutes left to make it 3-1 before Wright hit back to make it 4-1 a minute later.
