Rangers fought back from two goals down at half-time to snatch a draw against Motherwell at Fir Park.

Goals from Apostolos Stamatelopoulos and Tawanda Maswanhise had the Steelmen 2-0 up at the break before a double from Hamza Igamane made it 2-2 and secured a share of the points.

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell was sent to the stands and his side had two goals chopped off in an eventful second-half.

Both of the sides were aiming to get back to winning ways and end the year on a high after Boxing Day defeats midweek.

But they had to settle for a point a piece after an action packed game in North Lanarkshire on Sunday.

Australian forward Stamatelopoulos scored the opening goal to put the hosts ahead early in the first-half.

Maswanhise increased the away support’s misery when he fired past Jack Butland to double the deficit just after the half-hour mark.

Philippe Clement rang the changes at half-time as he replaced Cyriel Dessers and Kieron Dowell with Igamane and Vaclav Cerny.

And the Moroccan forward made an instant impact when he struck a powerful effort past Aston Oxborough to give the visitors a lifeline.

Motherwell had the ball in the net again soon after but Tony Watt’s header was ruled out following a VAR check for a foul on Butland.

Manager Stuart Kettlewell was shown a red card and sent to the stands after remonstrating with the ref over the disallowed goal.

Former Celtic forward Watt thought he had scored again just moments later but that goal was also ruled out, this time for an offside.

Igamane was then on target again as he scored his second of the game to make it 2-2 with just over 20 minutes remaining.

The draw means Rangers fall even further behind league leaders Celtic who are now 14 points clear at the top of the Premiership.
