Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has revealed that his plans have been dealt a blow after four players suffered injuries over the international break.

John Souttar, Derek Cornerlius, Mikey Moore and Bailey Rice have all been sidelined, with Rohl admitting he doesn’t know how long they will be missing for.

In addition to that, striker Youssef Chermiti and goalkeeper Liam Kelly are serious doubts for Saturday’s Premiership clash with Livingston.

“Before the international break we had nearly no injuries,” Rohl said. “Now we have John out with a muscle injury for we don’t know how long, and we have to wait.

“Mikey is out with a muscle injury and it’s difficult to say at the moment. Derek has to go to a specialist again with a muscle injury that could be serious, could be a big one.

“Bailey got the injury last week in training and will be out for a long one.

“Youssef is a big question mark over a kick. Liam is a question mark.”

The injuries come at a bad time for the club, with three games in the next week and a busy stretch coming up over the next two months.

However, the head coach revealed that Rabbi Matondo, Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell are all in training and nearing a return.

After playing Livingston on Saturday, Rohl and his players turn their attention to a Europa League clash with Braga at Ibrox, that they need to win to have any hope of progressing beyond the League Phase.

That’s followed by a home match against Falkirk and trips to take on Dundee United at Tannadice, and Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, all by December 6.

Pressed on likely return times for his injured stars, Rohl said:“John and Mikey, I hope at the end of December. But it’s a muscle injury, it could be 25 days, it could be 40 days. You never know.

“Derek at the moment, I have a little doubt that it’s just four weeks, five weeks. It could be longer.

“Yeah and Bailey, today is Bailey’s surgery, it’s a big one.

“This is football and it happens. I know this because I worked for both sides. For the national team, it’s important to have the players.

“It’s always an honour to play for your own country. As a club manager, you always want to protect your players, that’s what it is, football happens.

“I had some good conversations the last couple of days with some other players. I think it’s now also an opportunity to step up.

“It’s about solutions and hopefully we have more good solutions.”
