Scott Arfield has underlined the need to “keep the heat on” Celtic as the title race heads towards its final stretch.
Rangers picked up a crucial three points against Aberdeen at Ibrox on Saturday thanks to a late winner from Kemar Roofe.
It was a welcome result for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, who recorded a 1-0 victory for the second game in a row after their trip to St Johnstone in mid-week.
Speaking following Rangers’ win over the Dons, Arfield acknowledged the dip in performance levels.
But, he insisted that picking up three points is what matters after draws in their previous matches against Dundee United and Motherwell.
“That can happen in football, sometimes you just don’t get what you deserve,” said Arfield of the points dropped at the end of last month.
“I think the Dundee United and the Motherwell games in particular, where we created so many chances to score, you don’t do it.
“The last two displays probably haven’t been as good as that, nobody really cares about that, you care about the result, same as the players.
“You pick the bones out of it, obviously stay as positive as you can, look at the good things, look at the bad things.
“But overall, they two performances in particular, we deserved to win they two games and we never, we’ve won the last two games.”
Arfield explained that Rangers will seek to move on “as quickly as possible” as they hope to finish their league campaign strongly.
“In the grand scheme of things, probably nothing because it’s only three points, it means nothing,” he said of the significance of picking up three points against Aberdeen in the title race.
“You’ve got a feeling that obviously with these games and probably the feel of the day, the 150th anniversary to get the points is probably a bigger thing what everybody’s thinking.
“But at the end of the day, it’s three points and we move on as quickly as possible, keep the heat on, keep the performances going and hopefully it marries into wins.”
The midfielder also praised the display at Ibrox in celebration of the club’s 150th anniversary.
He said: “The occasion today was fantastic for us to be part of this football club at this time, 150 years.
“We were here midday when it was starting to get busy filling up at the fan zone, so I think the players quickly realised what an amazing event this was going to be.
“And obviously the display today was phenomenal for everybody to see, so it was all about getting they three points to make it a happier time.”
