Rangers have turned down an approach from Nottingham Forest for goalkeeper Jack Butland, STV News understands, with the club issuing a hands-off warning.

The former Stoke City and Crystal Palace goalkeeper, who joined the Ibrox club on a four-year contract in the summer, has been a stand-out player for Rangers this campaign.

It’s understood Rangers will not entertain any offers for Butland, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Manchester United.

The 30-year-old’s outstanding form could see him in line for an England recall ahead of Euro 2024 being held in Germany this summer, something the goalkeeper recently said he would love to be part of.

Butland has nine caps for the national team, with the last of those coming in 2018.

He has made 22 league appearances for Philippe Clement’s men this season, conceding only 11 goals in the Premiership.

Meanwhile midfielder Jose Cifuentes is close to joining Brazilian side Cruzeiro on loan.

The 24-year-old has failed to impress since moving to Rangers from MLS side Los Angeles FC in the summer, making only nine league appearances.
