The referees and VAR officials for the League Cup final between Celtic and Rangers have been revealed.

The Scottish Football Association announced on Friday that John Beaton will be in charge for the game at Hampden on Sunday, December 15.

He will be backed up by assistant referees David McGeachie and Jonathan Bell with Alan Muir and Frank Connor on VAR.

Glasgow’s big two will come head-to-head for the second time this season with the first piece of silverware on the line.

Celtic reached the final with a convincing 6-0 victory over Aberdeen while Rangers came from behind to beat Motherwell 2-1.

It will be the second meeting between the pair this season with the Hoops running out 3-0 winners at Celtic Park in September.

The final is a repeat of May’s Scottish Cup final when Adam Idah scored a late winner to give Brendan Rodgers’ side the trophy and secure a double.

Rangers are the current holders of the League Cup after defeating Aberdeen in the final a year ago.

Extra significance is added to the game as both sides are currently on 118 major trophies each, meaning the winner will move one ahead to 119.
