Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack insists they are better prepared to challenge for trophies this season after their summer rebuild.

Michael Beale has added seven new players to the squad after the departures of several first-team stars including Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor.

Other targets including Danilo and Jose Cifuentes could also be brought in before the competitive games start.

The Ibrox men finished last season trophy-less as city rivals Celtic claimed a clean sweep by winning a domestic treble after four Old Firm wins.

But the Scotland international believes the additions of the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Kieran Dowell and Jack Butland will help his side compete again on all fronts.

Speaking after a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United in McGregor’s testimonial on Tuesday night, he said: “The additions look really good, all of them are going to help us in different ways.

“Sam (Lammers) got his goal tonight, he works his socks off for the team, he’s an honest player and I think you’ll see that throughout pre-season that all the new guys will integrate and they will all bring something different to the team.

“Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will see the results of that and see the rewards of pre-season.

“In training we can already see that the levels went up and the standard has improved and all over the pitch there is competition with two of three players for every position and if we want to be successful then everyone one of us will have to play a part in that.

“The manager has strengthened the squad because last year just wasn’t good enough and we wanted to improve the squad, wanted to have more options.

“I think we have done that so far and there might be a few more coming in so I think that will help us to go on and be successful and try and win trophies.”

Rangers continue their pre-season with games against Hamburg, Olympiacos and Hoffenheim as they prepare for a hectic start of the season that will include Champions League qualifiers and their first game of the season at Kilmarnock when the Premiership kicks-off on August 5.
