Ryan Jack will miss Rangers’ trip to play Hearts on Sunday as the Ibrox club try to get to the bottom of an injury that’s troubled the midfielder.
Jack, who only recently returned to full fitness after being sidelined for nine months, will not be available after suffering the injury in training this week.
The 29-year-old had surgery on a calf problem early this year and Rangers were carefully managing his return to the first team. He made substitute appearances in league and cup games last month, and in last weekend’s win over Dundee.
Jack wasn’t in the travelling party for the 1-1 draw with Lyon on Thursday though, and manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst says he still doesn’t have detail or a diagnosis and has no idea when the influential midfielder will be back in contention.
The manager said: “He had a moment in the last training session before Lyon where he went off with a problem.
“We are still diagnosing the problem and once we know more, we can tell about the injury he has.
“So far, he will not be available for Sunday but hopefully he will join us soon.
“He has been working hard. He didn’t have game time over the last months because of injury.
“For him personally it’s not a good moment. For us as a club also because we don’t have Ryan Jack available for games”.
