Scotland defender Ryan Porteous has been banned for two games following his red card against Germany on Friday night.
The Watford player was sent off in the first half of Germany’s 5-1 win in the Euro 2024 opener.
UEFA confirmed on Monday that he will now be ruled out of the next two group games against Switzerland and Hungary.
That means the former Hibs’ star’s tournament will be over unless Steve Clarke’s men can do what no other Scotland team has ever done by reaching the knockout stages of a major tournament.
Germany were awarded a penalty following the Porteous challenge of Ikay Gundogan at the Allianz Arena as the hosts eased to a convincing victory.
UEFA have now found him guilty of ‘serious rough play’ and handed him a two match ban.
It will be the Swiss up next for Scotland in Cologne on Wednesday night and they will need to avoid defeat to keep any realistic hopes of getting out the group alive.
They will then take on Hungary in their final group game on Sunday as they aim to create history by reaching the second round.
Grant Hanley was brought on at half-time against Germany and he would be the most likely replacement for Porteous, although Scott McKenna could also be in contention to start.
