Scotland drawn against Czech Republic in Nations League

The national side will also face Israel and Slovakia in League B, Group 2.

Scotland have been drawn to face Czech Republic, Israel and Slovakia in their Nations League group.

The nations were pitted against each other at UEFA’s draw ceremony in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Scotland will now face Czech Republic, who are ranked 45th in the world and just five places ahead of Steve Clarke’s side, for the first time since a friendly in 2016.

Israel will be more familiar opposition, with Scotland having lost in Haifa but won at Hampden in the last Nations League and with the sides set to clash in a Euro 2020 play-off later this month.

Scotland played Slovakia in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, losing 3-0 away but winning 1-0 at home.

The nations League is intended to replace international friendlies but also allows sides to earn promotion through the levels and face top sides in competitive matches.

The winner of the four team league will be promoted into League A for the following season with the bottom club relegated to League C.

All group matches are scheduled to be played in September, October and November of this year.

Success in last season’s Nations League Scotland are only two wins away from a place at their first major tournament in 22 years.

If they beat Israel in the play-off at Hampden at the end of this month they will face a one-off match away from home against either Norway or Serbia to secure a place at Euro 2020.
