Liam Kelly says his first Scotland cap was the best moment of his life despite conceding three goals in the 4-1 defeat to France.
The Motherwell keeper was handed a chance to make his international debut against a star-studded side in Lille on Tuesday.
He was replaced at half-time by Hearts stopper Zander Clark who also relished the opportunity to test himself against the World Cup finalists in his full debut.
Both men have been understudy to first choice Angus Gunn and were delighted to finally get a taste of first-team action.
Speaking after the game Kelly said: “It’s the best moment of your life isn’t it?
“I’ve played for Scotland in every age group from and been in a lot of squads beside big Zander, so I’m delighted to get that moment eventually and so grateful to the manager for giving me that chance.
“I’m delighted for big Zander because we’ve been in this together from the start.
“over the next few days it will start to sink in a bit more, but it’s the best moment of your life playing for your country.”
And Clark, who conceded the fourth goal of the night from an unstoppable finish from Kingsley Coman, said: “Obviously delighted, as a kid you always want to dream of that moment.
“It was a great moment and a special occasion as well with the opposition that we were playing so absolutely delighted. It was a proud moment.
“Buzzing for Kells as well, a lot of hard work as went into it and I’ve known him since we were kids so for both of us to our first caps on the same night was a special moment.”
Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour scored his first ever goal in professional to give Steve Clarke’s side a shock 1-0 lead early in the game.
But France fought back with a double from Benjamin Pavard and one each from Kylian Mbappe and Coman to win the game comfortably.
