Scotland international David Marshall agrees summer move to Hibernian Football Club

Hibernian have agreed to sign goalkeeper David Marshall on a two-year deal this summer.

The keeper is currently coming to the end of a short-term deal at Queen’s Park Rangers but will return to Scotland this summer to join the Easter Road club.

Marshall will look to establish himself as first choice goalkeeper ahead of Matt Macey and Kevin Dabrowski at Hibs, who will have a new manager in place after sacking Shaun Maloney earlier this year.

The 37-year-old will also be aiming to return to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad and add to his 47 caps after losing his place when out of favour at Derby County.

The goalkeeper will be playing in Scottish football for the first time since 2007. After coming through the ranks at Celtic and catching the eye with an impressive performance against Barcelona in 2004, he failed to displace Artur Boruc and moved to Norwich City, initially on loan.

A move to Cardiff City followed, and Marshall played more than 250 times for the Welsh club, before spells at Hull City, Wigan Athletic and Derby County.

Hibs are currently going through a recruitment process to appoint a permanent successor to Maloney. David Gray is in interim charge but the club are looking at a wide range of candidates.

Roy Keane is among the names to have expressed an interest and the club hierarchy have already had informal discussions with some candidates in London.
