Scotland preparing for Spain clash on the brink of Euros qualification

Scotland are preparing to take on Spain on Thursday with the national team on the verge of qualification for Euro 2024.

A draw in Sevilla would secure Steve Clarke’s side place at the championships being held in Germany next summer.

Even if they lose to Spain, qualification could still be secured if Norway fail to beat Cyprus at the AEK Arena in Larnaca on the same night.

Following the game against Spain, Scotland will have another two games to get the points required when they take on Georgia in Tbilisi before hosting Norway at Hampden in the final group game.

They currently sit at the top of Group A with five wins from five, including a famous 2-0 win over the Spaniards in Glasgow earlier this year.

Clarke has stuck by the same players again with Kieran Tierney and Ryan Jack missing through injury from last month’s 3-0 win over Cyprus.

Laurence Shankland has been left out this time around with Celtic’s Greg Taylor and Leeds United defender Liam Cooper also brought back in to the fold.

Lewis Ferguson, who recently captained Serie A side Bologna to win over Empoli before starring in a 2-2 draw with Inter Milan at the San Siro on Saturday, is getting closer to first-team action.

He will compete with the likes of Billy Gilmour, Callum McGregor, John McGinn and Scott McTominay, who scored a double for Manchester United at the weekend, for a place in the midfield.

Cooper, John Souttar and Scott McKenna will be in line to replace Tierney in the back three with Che Adams again expected to lead the line ahead of Lyndon Dykes, Kevin Nisbet and Luton Town’s Jacob Brown.
