Scotland rugby star Stuart Hogg has been stripped of his MBE after he was convicted of domestic abuse in 2024, according to an official notice in The Gazette.

The ex-British and Irish Lion admitted a single charge of domestic abuse, between 2019 and 2024 at locations including Hawick, the Scottish Borders, and Bearsden, near Glasgow in November 2024.

The court heard how Hogg berated his wife for “not being fun” after going on drinking binges with his colleagues, and sent “in excess of 200 text messages in a few hours despite having been asked to leave her alone” and that Mrs Hogg had a panic attack due to the messages.

The ex-Scotland captain was sentenced to a five-year non-harassment order and fined after breaching bail for repeatedly contacting his ex-partner.

Hogg was awarded an MBE in the 2024 New Yeas Honours for his services to rugby, that will now be “cancelled and annulled”.

A statement in the Gazette – the official public record, read: “The King has directed that the appointment of Stuart William Hogg to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 30 December 2023 shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.”
