Scotland start World Cup campaign at home to Austria

Scotland begin their bid to reach World Cup 2022 with a home qualifier against Austria, and finish their fixtures against Denmark at Hampden.

The national team were drawn in Group F of qualifying for Qatar 2022, going up against Denmark, Austria, Israel, Faroe Islands and Moldova.

Fixtures for the group have now been confirmed, with Steve Clarke’s side beginning and ending the campaign with home fixtures against higher ranked teams.

The first match is at home to Austria on March 25, 2021, with a trip to face Israel three days later and then Faroe Islands at home on March 31 to complete the triple-header.

September’s international schedule begins on the 1st away against Denmark before Moldova visit Hampden on September 4. Scotland then travel to play Austria on September 7.

October brings just two games, at home to Israel on the 9th and away to Faroe Islands threee days later.

The group concludes in November 2021 with a trip to Moldova on November 12 and then a home match against top seeds Denmark on November 15.

The group winners qualify automatically for the tournament in Qatar in two years’ time.

The runners-up all go into play-offs along with the best two sides from the Nations League group winners that haven’t already secured a place. Those teams are split into three paths with each path winner taking a finals place.
