Steve Clarke has named his Scotland side to face Greece in Athens, with Craig Gordon starting in goal in the crucial World Cup qualifier.

The national team have travelled to Greece knowing that a draw or win will set up a huge final game against Denmark at Hampden next week with the opportunity to qualify directly for the finals in North America.

As he bids to lead Scotland to a first men’s World Cup since 1998, Clarke has had to contend with some injury issues, with the absence of Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Angus Gunn giving the head coach a tough decision to make between Hearts veteran keeper Craig Gordon, Rangers’ back-up Liam Kelly, and Falkirk’s Scott Bain.

Clarke has opted to go with Gordon, who hasn’t played a first team game this season since returning from injury.

The goalkeeper starts behind a back four of captain Andy Robertson, Grant Hanley, John Souttar and Aaron Hickey.

Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay and John McGinn are in a midfield trio, while Ryan Christie and Ben Gannon-Doak play either side of striker Che Adams.
