Hendry: We'll take defeat on the chin and bounce back to form for Euros

Scotland are now seven games without a win following a home defeat to Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

Scotland’s Jack Hendry says the national team will take the defeat to Northern Ireland “on the chin” and look to “bounce back” to form in time for the Euros.

Steve Clarke’s men are now seven games without a win, losing five and drawing two, following Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss at Hampden Park that followed Friday night’s 4-0 drubbing in Amsterdam.

They have yet to win a game since qualification to the European Championships was secured and only have two more friendlies to put that right before the opening game against the hosts in Munich.

Former Celtic and Dundee defender Hendry, who now plays in Saudi Arabia, admitted the squad were left disappointed at another defeat but insists they won’t dwell on it as they turn their attention to the summer when they will take on Finland and Gibraltar in their final warm-up matches a week before playing Germany on June 14.

He said: “It’s obviously disappointing, Northern Ireland made it very difficult for us and we just didn’t seem to get into the game.

“I think it was probably important to score first in the match and we didn’t do that, Northern Ireland managed to get a break then hold on to their lead for the rest of the game and we struggled to break them down.

“These games happen, we won’t dwell on it too long. It was just one of those nights and we now look forward to meeting up in the summer.

“We’ll take it on the chin, stick together and remain positive. It was a setback but we’ll boounce back from it pretty quickly.

“It says a lot about how successful we’ve been that the fans are disappointed with that result, we’re extremely disappointed as well in the dressing room.

“We know the fans’ frustration, we’ll try and make them extremely proud in the summer. We’ve got a lot to look forward to and so do the fans.”
