Scotland's first Commonwealth medal scooped by triathlete Beth Potter

Scotland’s first medal has been delivered by triathlete Beth Potter at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The Olympian had a strong swim to lead out of the water before heading off on the bike where defending Olympic champion Flora Duffy of Bermuda along with England’s Georgia Taylor-Brown hunted down and eventually passed the Scot.

Potter produced a strong run, albeit with too much to do to catch the leading pair, to secure bronze.

Chief executive of sportscotland, Stewart Harris, said, ‘’What an incredible performance by Beth Potter who has won the first medal for Scotland at these Commonwealth Games.

“She started with a brilliant swim and continued that performance till the end of the race. It is an incredible moment for Beth, her team and everyone connected with Triathlon Scotland.’’
