Scotland's Sean Frame 'ecstatic' with silver medal in Wheelchair Marathon

Team Scotland Commonwealth Games star Sean Frame says he is “ecstatic” at winning the silver medal in Saturday morning’s Wheelchair Marathon.

Frame finished second following a nail biting finish in the T53/54 marathon event in Birmingham.

England’s Johnboy Smith took gold with his teammate Simon Lawson in third after favourite David Weir suffered a puncture while leading the pack.

Frame clocked 1:45.49 and beat Lawson by only ten seconds – with the positions having changed hands in the final stages.

Speaking to STV Sport following the race he said: “I’m ecstatic, I still can’t get my head around it or comprehend what just happened.

“In the last three miles and the fight for second with Simon Lawson, I am thinking ‘i’ve just done this amazing push and I’m not going to let you steal this from me right at the end’ so I just gave everything and it worked out for silver.

“It was amazing, it just shows me that all the countless miles and all that training over the years has been worth it, and to actually see it come in to practice and see the results is just amazing.”

He continued: “I’m so proud to do this and help the Team Scotland medal tally.

“Coming into the last stages I could hear my mum shouting me on even within all the other shouts. My dad helps train me and he is just ecstatic. It’s a happy family.”

Following his win Smith called for Weir to be knighted.

He said: “The better man didn’t win, I take my hat off to Dave,”.

“Your majesty the Queen, give David Weir a knighthood, make him Sir David Weir; that man deserves it.”
