Former Celtic captain Scott Brown takes on first managerial job at Fleetwood Town

Scott Brown has been appointed as the new manager of English League One side Fleetwood Town.

The former Celtic captain has taken on his first managerial job just weeks after leaving Aberdeen to pursue a career in coaching.

The 36-year-old had been linked with the vacancy at Raith Rovers but will instead begin the next stage of his career attempting to take Fleetwood to the Championship.

Brown won 23 major trophies in his time at Celtic but left the club last year to move to Pittodrie and combine playing with coaching at Aberdeen. The departure of Stephen Glass and arrival of Jim Goodwin ended the coaching opporunities and Brown agreed an early exit from the Dons.

The former Scotland international told Fleetwood’s official website: “I’m delighted to have been named head coach at Fleetwood Town, it’s a great opportunity at a really exciting club.

“I’ve always had a real desire to move into management and can’t wait to meet the players and staff and get started. The hard work starts now – I’m now looking forward to getting onto the grass.”
