SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell wants Hampden to host Josh Taylor’s next fight.

Taylor created history at the weekend by becoming the undisputed world champion at super-lightweight division following his unanimous points win over Jose Ramirez.

The Scot says he wants his next fight to take place in Scotland, with Easter Road or Edinburgh Castle mentioned as possibilities.

But SFA chief Maxwell wants the home of Scottish football to host Taylor’s next bout.

‘’There is no reason why we can’t have a boxing fight at Hampden,’’ Maxwell told STV. ‘’I think Mike Tyson was the last one to fight there and it lasted less than a minute. So hopefully Josh can have a fight there and it would last less than a minute and everybody would be happy!

‘’He [Taylor] has a huge profile in the boxing community. He’s a superstar after his performance at the weekend and we would love to have him at the national stadium. ‘’

Taylor’s popularity has soared and Maxwell believes Hampden would be sold out, if it were to host his next fight:

‘’I think Josh’s friends and family would sell it out on their own!,’’ said Maxwell.

‘’I think there would be a huge amount of interest in Josh Taylor given the level he is now at. Being undisputed champion is a fantastic achievement.

‘’Taylor’s first fight in defence of all of his belts he has at this point at the national stadium is something we would love to see.’’

Following his success at light-welterweight, Taylor could now move up a division. The Scot says he would love to fight Terence Crawford. Crawford is undefeated in 37 fights.
