Souttar to choose between Rangers and English clubs for pre-contract

John Souttar will choose between Rangers and two English Championship clubs as his next destination with the Hearts defender set to sign a pre-contract agreement this month.

The Scotland star, who scored on his international return as Steve Clarke’s men clinched a World Cup play-off spot with a win over Denmark, has narrowed his choice down to three.

STV Sport understands that the 25-year-old will make a decision this week.

A host of clubs are believed to be interested in the centre half after a strong start to the season helped Hearts to third place in the league at the half way stage.

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is looking to strengthen his squad with the signing of Souttar who would join the Ibrox side in the summer if he decides that where is next destination should be.

The Dutchman has already been busy in the transfer market with the departure of 20-year-old right back Nathan Patterson to Everton and the signing of American James Sands.

Meanwhile Hearts have secured new contracts for goalkeeper Craig Gordon and defender Craig Halkett until the summer of 2024.
