St Mirren striker Jonah Ayunga has settled questions over his future by signing a new deal with the Premiership club.
The 27-year-old’s existing deal was due to expire this summer but he’s now agreed a new contract that will run until 2026 and is aiming to enjoy another season of success.
Ayunga was on the scoresheet in Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Ross County that secured a top six place for the third season running.
He said he felt at home with the club and was glad to be staying on.
“I’m really settled,” Ayunga said. “My family is up here, it’s a good group of boys and I know the grass isn’t always greener.
“I’m happy to be here and that’s three top six finishes on the bounce. I know we can do better and we’ll be looking to kick on again next season.”
The Kenya international was one of Stephen Robinson’s first signings after he took over at St Mirren and he’s gone on to score 11 goals in 71 appearances, though his time in Paisley was blighted by a serious injury that ruled him out for almost a year.
Robinson said he was delighted to have the attacker in his plans for the next year.
“We’re really pleased to get Jonah signed up for another year.
“He’s had to be patient this season, but when he has come in he has contributed well and played a big part in the team over the last few months.
“He’s had to battle back from a tough cruciate knee injury and we’re starting to see all the attributes that we know he has. We’re delighted he’ll be part of the group again next season.”
