St Mirren have completed their second signing of transfer deadline day, bringing in Alex Gogic on loan from Hibernian.

The midfielder has moved to Paisley until the end of the season and will add to St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin’s options in the centre of the park.

The Cyprus international is not in Shaun Maloney’s plans at Easter Road and will now look to impress and aid St Mirren’s bid to make the top six in the Premiership.

Gogic moved to Hibernian at the beginning of last season and made 53 appearances for the Edinburgh side. Prior to joining Hibs, he was caught the eye at Hamilton Accies.

The 27-year-old started his career at Olympiacos and also played at Swansea City.

The signing news was followed by an announcement from the club that Jamie McGrath has joined Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The Republic of Ireland international was in the last six months of his contract.

St Mirren moved earlier in the day to secure the services of Jordan Jones on loan from Wigan. The former Kilmarnock and Rangers winger left Ibrox for the Latics last year.

Jones said he needed to be playing regularly and was sold on St Mirren by Goodwin.

“I’ve been speaking with the gaffer for the last 10 to 14 days and got a really good feel from him after the first phone call,” he told the club website.

“He made me feel like I’d be a really valued member of the squad here. He has seen me play and believes in what I can do.

“I’m at a stage of my career where I feel like it’s vital for me to play and to start doing well again.”

Goodwin said: “Jordan knows the Premiership really well up here. He tore it up with Kilmarnock and then got a big move to Rangers.

“We’ve been working extremely hard on it over the last couple of weeks.

“He gives us something that we have been missing all season which is that real injection of pace and creativity at the top end.

“Hopefully he’ll assist the forward players and score some of his own as well.”

St Mirren also announced on Monday that Kristian Dennis had left the club to sign for Carlisle United.
