Starfelt: Celtic are hungry for more silverware after League Cup win

Carl Starfelt says the Celtic team have a taste for more success after winning the League Cup and are in a good place as they begin their Scottish Cup journey.

The Parkhead side travel to Alloa for their fourth round tie on Saturday and are hoping to continue their good run in knockout competitions after beating Hibs at Hampden to lift the Premier Sports Cup last month.

The win at the national stadium was the first time many of manager Ange Postecoglou’s new-look squad had lifted silverware as a Celtic player and Starfelt is determined it will be the first of many.

“One of the reasons many players come to this club is in the hope of winning stuff,” the defender said.

“We’ve won our first trophy here so of course we are hungry for more. It’s the best feeling to win games but especially to win trophies.

“We will do our best to keep doing that.”

Starfelt was one of the new arrivals last summer and feels he has settled well into Postecoglou’s way of working, and is enjoying playing alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of the defence. The Swede says that the whole team is in a good place and can look forward with optimism after finding their groove.

“The coach is very clear in what he wants and I feel like the team is playing very good right now,” he said. “We have a lot of confidence in the team and the players are getting more and more into the style of play.

“I’m confident we will keep going like that.”

Celtic are heavy favourites to win at the Indodrill Stadium this weekend but Starfelt, who admits he hasn’t enjoyed much cup success elsewhere in his career, says that they can’t afford to take Alloa lightly.

“Even against teams from the lower divisions you know it’ll be a tough game,” he said. “They’ll fight very hard so you need to be really focused in very match, that’s my experience.

“Over one leg anything can happen. You need to really put in the work and do your best.

“If we do that, I’m sure we’ll do well.”
