Robinson focused on football amid 'challenging' period for St Mirren

The Paisley side are preparing to host Ross County in the Premiership this weekend.

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson insists he is solely focused on football amid a “challenging” period for the Premiership side.

Two players from the Paisley club appeared in court for separate cases on Thursday.

Kevin van Veen and Jaden Brown won’t be available for selection against Ross County this weekend as an internal investigation takes place.

Those incidents came shortly after the Saints released Shaun Rooney after he was charged with assault.

But Robinson’s full attention is on matters on the pitch that he can control as they prepare to host the Highland outfit on Saturday.

Speaking on Friday, after the club revealed it was carrying out an investigation into both players, he said: “It has been challenging, on and off the pitch, but you face these challenges and you have to deal with them.

“That’s what I am paid to do, to worry about football and pick the best the team that I possibly can to put on the pitch and get results.”

St Mirren got back to winning ways midweek with a 3-1 victory over St Johnstone that brought an end to a four-match losing streak.

They now sit seventh in the table with 11 points from their first 11 league games and will be hoping to add to that in Paisley this weekend.

Robinson continued: “We had a terrific result on Wednesday night and we had a brilliant performance at Ibrox at the weekend, so things on the pitch are moving in the right direction and that is my sole focus.

“It’s my job to worry about football and make sure the players are ready to go, that they are in a positive frame of mind and they are.

“There’s been a really good atmosphere around the place after Wednesday’s result, we have players coming back to fitness and form, which is great to see, and I am confident that we will get through this period like we always do and we will come out of it stronger.”
