Stephen Robinson's head 'not turned' by Aberdeen manager link

The Premier Sports Cup-winning manager says he can't control the narrative as the Dons search for a new boss.

Stephen Robinson says he is fully focused on St Mirren amid links to the now vacant Aberdeen manager post.

The Premier Sports Cup-winning manager says he can’t control the narrative with the Dons searching for a new manager after they sacked Jimmy Thelin on Sunday.

The decision came off the back of a five-match winless run for Aberdeen, capped off by a defeat against Falkirk at the weekend.

But Buddies boss Robinson, who was installed as the bookies’ favourite following Thelin’s sacking, says he can’t control what people say.

He said: “It doesn’t turn my head. I’ve been linked with every job in Scotland, England, Ireland.

“I’ve been in the game a long, long time now, so you just get used to getting linked with stuff.

“I’ve got a big enough job to concentrate on Tuesday night than concentrating on anybody else and what you also have to remember is somebody’s lost their job, which is horrible.

“It’s a horrible industry. It’s certainly not for me to talk about anybody else’s job.”

St Mirren are five points ahead of Kilmarnock in tenth place, but Robinson says his team have a fight on their hands.

He added: “At the minute, we’re in a relegation battle. If we win our two games in hand, you’re on the verge of the top six again and that’s how tight this league is.”

The freezing weather is a complication itself, on top of recent injuries to Keanu Baccus, Mark O’Hara and Jonah Ayunga.

“We couldn’t train before the Motherwell game, we had no facility to train,” Robinson said. “The astroturf was completely frozen as well.

“Which is a shame because the club have invested a lot of money into covers on the grass pitch, which we thought would work. It didn’t work at all for us, unfortunately.

“But that’s no excuse. We didn’t train before we went to Aberdeen, if you remember the storm, and we were brilliant and won. So there’s no rhyme or reason sometimes in football.

“So again it’ll be very, very minimal what we’re able to do in terms of our preparation. But that’s not an excuse.

“We’re well versed in what we’re good at and we need to get back to doing that again on Tuesday.”
