Storm Babet leaves Scottish football games off amid torrential weather

A host of matches across the leagues have been called off on Saturday amid torrential conditions.

Ross County’s Scottish Premiership meeting with St Mirren has fallen foul of Storm Babet to become the eighth SPFL game cancelled by the torrential conditions.

The clash in Dingwall was postponed on Saturday morning over safety concerns.

Aberdeen v Dundee and St Johnstone v Motherwell are also off in the top flight, following consultation with Police Scotland amid three days of red weather warnings.

In the Championship, Arbroath v Raith Rovers and Greenock Morton v Inverness Caledonian Thistle have succumbed to the heavy rainfall.

In League One, Cove Rangers v Montrose is off, as are the League Two meetings between Elgin City and Forfar Athletic and Stenhousemuir and Peterhead.

Three people have already lost their lives to the storm while a major search for a missing person continues.

A second red weather warning for severe rainfall came into effect on Saturday.

The east of the country will continue to be battered with “unprecedented” rain while high winds and flooding could spark further travel chaos.

Parts of Angus and Aberdeenshire have been issued with another rare red warning for rain presenting a serious danger to life from fast-flowing water.

A number of amber and yellow warnings are also in place across nearly the entire east of the country, as well as parts of the northern Highlands and central belt.
