Kettlewell believes Motherwell can cause 'huge upset' and reach final

The Steelmen take on Rangers at Hampden on Sunday.

Stuart Kettlewell believes his Motherwell side can pull off a “huge shock” by beating Rangers to reach the final of the League Cup.

The Steelmen travel to Hampden to take on Philippe Clement’s side on Sunday with a place in December’s final on the line.

Only three points separate the sides in the Premiership but Kettlewell insists his team go into the game as big underdogs.

Kettlewell, who also revealed teenage midfielder Lennon Miller will captain the side at the National Stadium, said: “You talk about two football clubs that have rebuilt, I know that has been mentioned a lot with Rangers by the number of players that have gone out and the number of players that have come in.

“Well, I think I can rival that and I think we can sort of match that.

“But, the big difference comes in that Rangers can spend millions on players and we look for free agents and we look into the loan market.

“That’s not mind games from me at all, that’s just the harsh reality of it. That’s just what the reality of the situation is.

“That doesn’t mean that we don’t believe in ourselves or that we don’t believe that we can go there and cause some sort of upset.

“Contrary to what a lot of people think, from what I’m led to believe, for Motherwell to go and progress in this competition I believe would be a huge upset.”
