They are behind Rangers on goal-difference and two points ahead of last season’s title winners Celtic, who drop to third.
Both of the Old Firm sides have a game in hand over City.
Celtic, who beat Montrose 4-2 on Thursday, were in Champions League action at the weekend.
Ten of the 12 top-flight sides were in SWPL action on Sunday as the Hoops took a step closer to the group stage of Europe’s elite competition with a 1-0 win over Vorskla at the Excelsior Stadium.
Elsewhere Partick Thistle beat bottom side Dundee United, who have yet to win a game this season, 4-0 at Foundation Park, Motherwell ran out 6-0 winners over Queen’s Park with Laura Berry scoring four.
Spartans jumped up to eighth in the table with a 3-1 win over Aberdeen at Ainslie Park.
