'This is fantastic': Wimmer loving life in Scotland with Motherwell

Michael Wimmer hailed the passion, honesty and fun of Scottish football as he reflected on the start of his career as Motherwell manager.

The German is preparing for his fifth game as Motherwell travel to take on Aberdeen at a sold-out Pittodrie.

The Steelmen are in the hunt for a top-six place after taking seven points from four games under the former Austria Vienna boss.

The 44-year-old said: “I love it here. The challenge is so honest. Each game is honest. You make a foul and then you go and say sorry. And it goes on. This is great.

“The spectators are passionate. I’ve laughed every day for five weeks. And also to work with the guys, I have never had a team before where every player in the team is like this. You don’t have to say ‘please come on, please run, please come on’. No, they just do it. And this is great.

“I love this. I never saw this before. In a whole squad, I never saw this before. This is fantastic.”

Motherwell dropped out of the top six after drawing with St Mirren last time out but with Hearts playing at Celtic Park and Dundee United not in action until Sunday, there is a real chance for them to go two points off the top four if they can upset the odds at Aberdeen.

Wimmer said: “I had a similar situation when I took over at Austria Vienna. We had four games to go and we were one point or two points behind the top six.

“In the last game before the split, we had the derby against Rapid Vienna and we won and then we were in the top six.

“I think the table is so tight that it will be a decision on game day 33. Hopefully on game day 33 against Hearts at home we have this final game.

“This is the aim from the players and hopefully we have this. But it’s always important that we look from game to game.”
