Trophy day and fight for survival: What's in store for last weekend of Premiership season?

This weekend the Premiership season comes to end with all 12 top-flight teams playing their 38th and final game of the campaign.

It has all been settled at the top with every league position already sewn up, but still all to play for at the bottom with St Johnstone and Ross County aiming to avoid a relegation playoff.

After ten-months of drama the curtain will come down on the 128th season of the Scottish top-flight on Sunday when the teams from the bottom half are in action.

The six teams in the top-half all play their games on Saturday with newly crowned champions Celtic taking on St Mirren in Parkhead, Hearts hosting Rangers in Edinburgh and Kilmarnock travelling to Dundee.

Top six

All of the positions in the top-six are already set in stone with the Hoops clinching the title with a 5-0 win over Kilmarnock during the week.

They will be presented with the Premiership trophy for the third year in a row in front of a packed out Celtic Park after their game against the Saints.

It will also be Joe Hart’s last game for the club before his retirement from football.

Rangers’ win over Dundee on Tuesday meant St Mirren had guaranteed fifth place and a shot at European football for the first time since the 1980s.

Despite missing out on the title Philippe Clement’s side will be aiming to finish the league season strongly at Tynecastle ahead of next weekend’s Scottish Cup final against Celtic when both sides will be hoping to get their hands on their second piece of silverware of the season.

Hearts are secure in third, meaning they will be in the group stages of either the Europa League of Conference League next season, and Kilmarnock are in fourth, 12 points behind third and eight points ahead of fifth.

Bottom six

In the bottom half all eyes will be on Fir Park and Dingwall to see who will be left sweating ahead of a playoff final.

St Johnstone are currently in 11th place and two points behind Ross County who also have a better goal-difference.

The Perth side travel to North Lanarkshire to take on Motherwell knowing they will need to win to have any hope of avoiding a two-legged game against either Partick Thistle or Raith Rovers to stay in the division.

Even if they take all three points from Fir Park then they will need Ross County to lose at home to Aberdeen in the Highlands.

In that scenario Craig Levein’s side will leapfrog County into tenth and secure their top-flight status for another season and consign the Staggies to a playoff for a second season in a row.

However if Ross County draw, then St Johnstone will need to win by four clear goals to get themselves to safety, with County holding a goal-difference advantage of three and having also scored nine more goals throughout the campaign.

Elsewhere Aberdeen can secure their position at the top of the bottom six with a win over County, but if they lose and Hibs beat Livingston away then the Easter Road side will take seventh spot.

The game at Almondvale will also be the final Premiership game for Livingston for at least a year as they return to the Championship after six years in the top-flight.
