UCI World Cycling Championships day five: BMX and Time Trial

The UCI World Cycling Championships reaches its halfway stage on Monday with yet another busy schedule on the cards for supporters and competitors.

More than 8,000 cyclists are set to participate in the contests, from August 3 to 13, at a variety of interesting and picturesque venues across the country.

Among them are some of Scotland’s finest, including Katie Archibald and Neil Fachey – who have both already won gold medals, with no fewer than 30 Scots selected for the Great Britain squad.

Glasgow and Dundee will host the competitions on day five of the ten-day “mega event” that is the biggest ever of its kind.

It’s an early start at the Glasgow BMX Centre with doors opening at 8am for the BMX racing.

Toughness and top speeds will be tested as riders clash in sprint races for the fearless as the World Challenge takes place from qualifiers right through to the final.

From 10am the Grand Fondo Individual Time Trial will take place in Dundee as cyclists take on the 22.8km route through the city.

The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow will then host several events from 11.30am including qualifiers for the Women’s Elite Sprint and Men’s C2 1km time trial before semi-finals in the Men’s Elite Sprint and Men’s B Sprint.

Medals will be handed out at Glasgow Green when it hosts the BMX Freestyle finals from 1.30pm.

No two runs will be the same as riders express their creativity on a skatepark-like course for the Women’s Elite and Men’s Elite Finals.

Then it’s back to the Velodrome where more medals will be handed out in several finals taking place from 5.15pm.

These will the include the Men C5 Individual Pursuit, the Men’s Elite Sprint and Women C4 Individual Pursuit.
