The UCI World Cycling Championships have reached day three with another busy schedule planned for Saturday’s events.
Glasgow and Fort William will host events including the BMX Freestyle and Junior Road Races on Saturday.
Roads throughout Scotland’s biggest city were closed for the first time on Friday and disruption is to continue as the city hosts more contests.
It was labelled “shambolic” after Glasgow stood still in gridlocked traffic and local businesses were left empty.
More than 8,000 cyclists are set to participate in the contests, over ten days from August 3 to 13, at a variety of interesting and picturesque venues across the country.
Among them are some of Scotland’s finest, including Katie Archibald and Neil Fachey, with no fewer than 30 Scots selected for the Great Britain squad.
Para-cyclist Jenny Holl was the first Scot to win gold when she scooped the top prize in the women’s B 1km time-trial on Thursday.
First up on Saturday will be the qualifiers for the BMX Freestyle Park: Elite being at held at Glasgow Green from 9am.
Action begins again at the Chris Hoy Velodrome with qualifiers for the Women B Sprint, Men C5 1KM Time Trial and Men Elite Sprint before the Women B Sprint quarter-final and Women Elite Team Pursuit – Round 1.
The Women C5 Omnium – 200m Time Trial and Men Elite Sprint – 1/8 Finals will also take place at the arena in the east-end of Glasgow.
The Road: Women Junior Race and Men Junior Race also takes place in the city at 10am with a distance of over 70km for the women and 127km for the men, with both starting and finishing at George Square after a route through the west end of the city including parts of Byres Road, Argyle Street, Kelvingrove Park and Sauchiehall Street.
The Mountain Bike Downhill Elite Finals will take place at the Nevis Range in Fort William beginning at 12.30pm with the women’s and men’s event both scheduled to take place.
Then its another return to the Chris Hoy Velodrome from 5.30pm for the medal sessions that will include finals in the Men C1 1km Time Trial, Men C5 1km Time Trial, Women C5 Individual Pursuit and the Women’s and Men’s Elite team pursuits.
Which roads will be closed near me?
The majority of Glasgow city centre will be restricted by closures, to allow the majority of road events will take place – Great Western Road, Queen Street, Sauchiehall Street and Hope Street will have restrictions in place.

Traffic is expected to be much heavier than normal in the Perth area during the ran Fondo event including on the M90, A90, A85 and A9.
