UEFA have banned Rangers striker Kemar Roofe for four games – and the club have also been fined for the behaviour of their players.
Roofe was sent off during his side’s 2-0 home defeat to Slavia Prague in the Europa League last 16, after a challenge on Slavia keeper Ondrej Kolar that left the goalie with a fractured skull.
In addition to his red card, the forward was also cited by UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary body, who have now hit him with a lengthy ban.
The committee has ruled that Roofe will miss his next four European games “for dangerously assaulting another player”.
Rangers have also been punished as a club, with UEFA ordering them to pay a €9000 fine because of “the improper conduct of the team”.
In addition to Roofe’s red card, Leon Balogun was sent off and three other Rangers players were booked.
The match was also marred by the conflict between Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara and Slavia’s Ondrej Kudela, with the Czech player accused of racially abusing his opponent.
Kudela has been charged by UEFA, with Kamara also called to account for an alleged assault.
