Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst said he was satisfied with his side’s win over St Johnstone, saying points are the most important thing at this stage of the season.
Glen Kamara put the visitors ahead after just three minutes at McDiarmid Park and though Rangers couldn’t add to their tally, they kept pace with Celtic at the top of the table.
“Yeah, it was a good start with an early goal and in the end it was the goal that gave us the three points,” Van Bronckhorst told STV.
“We had chances again when Morelos hit the post and Scott Arfield had a great chance to score the second. We tried to score goals and I don’t think we gave any chances away throughout the whole game, which I’m very pleased about.
“This game was more about fighting and making the duels because playing football on this pitch was really hard.
“Today was about the three points and nothing less. At moments in the league you need to get the points. I think we played better at the weekend and now we have three points, then we only had one point. I’m really pleased with the points.
“It’s almost the end so we have to keep winning our games. We’ve done that today and we have to continue.”
St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson felt his side’s competitive performance wil lstand them in good stead as they bid to avoid relegation.
“After three minutes I feared the worst,” he admitted. “The team talk had been about keeping it tight and make it hard for them but we gave them a great opportunity early on.
“But once they scored I was pleased our heads didn’t go down.
“On another day we might have got a wee sniff at goal and got back into the game but it was not to be.
“But I said to the players afterwards if they give me that 90 minutes for the rest of the season we will have a really good chance of surviving. And that’s what it’s all about – surviving.
“Tonight showed the players are up for the fight. The staff are, the supporters are, the hierarchy are. We are all ready to fight and if we can keep doing that we have a good chance.”
