Identity plea as man struck by car fights for life

Police are trying to identify a man who is fighting for his life after being struck by a car.

He was struck by a black VW Golf on George Street, near Barr Place in Paisley, at around 12.45am on Friday.

The man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where medical staff say his condition as critical.

He is described as white and was wearing a navy and white striped t-shirt, a black hooded top, navy jogging bottoms and white socks.

He was with another man, only described as wearing grey clothing, who left the scene before police arrived.

Detective inspector Ian Ross, from Paisley CID, said: “It would appear that the man had been walking along George Street with another man when he lay or fell on to the road.  It’s at this time he was struck by the VW Golf.

“Whilst undergoing treatment for the injuries suffered after being run over, medical staff noticed that he also had injuries that may have been sustained prior to being run over.

“We need to find out who the man is so we can let any family know where he is and that he is very unwell. If you were in George St and saw that two men or have any dashcam footage from there, or know where the man had been earlier that night, then please get in touch.”

“At the moment, due to his condition, we have not been able to speak to him and so have been unable to establish what happened or indeed, who he is.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries in the area and checking CCTV to try and find out where he and the man he was with were in the lead up to him being injured.

“We need to find out who the man is so we can let any family know where he is and that he is very unwell. If you were in George Street and saw that two men or have any dashcam footage from there, or know where the man had been earlier that night, then please get in touch.

“Information can be passed to Paisley CID via 101 quoting reference number 0128 of the 1 May 2020. If you wish to remain anonymous, then call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
