Aberdeen scientists make motor neurone disease breakthrough

One in 300 people will develop motor neurone disease at some point in their lifetime.

Scientists in Aberdeen have made a breakthrough towards a treatment for motor neurone disease.

At the moment, there is no cure for the debilitating illness, but now researchers have found drugs that mimic Vitamin A in the body, which could help slow down the effects of the condition.

In recent years, MND has come to prominence after Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir and rugby league star Rob Borrows died from the disease.

The research is still in its very early stages but for those living with MND, and for the charities that support them it does offer a glimmer of hope.
