Calls for oil and gas windfall tax as BP profits double

Campaigners have been critical of the levy for allowing firms to drill more in the North Sea

There have been renewed calls for a tougher windfall tax after oil giant BP announced billions in profits for the third quarter of the year.

The company said it made around £7 billion, but it would pay hundreds of millions towards the windfall tax.

But BP’s chief executive said the business was helping to provide energy the world needs today.
