The cost of the replacement for Scotland’s largest prison has soared to almost £1bn, ten times the original estimate.
HMP Glasgow will also open years later than originally planned.
Defending the increased cost, the Justice Secretary described it as a critical investment.
The Scottish Conservatives say ministers are “squandering taxpayers’ money on a scandalous scale”.
