Council urged to finally fix bridge after three years of closure

Locals in Aboyne have urged the council to repair the bridge, which has been closed to cars for three years

Residents in the Aberdeenshire village of Aboyne are renewing calls to fix a major bridge across the River Dee, which has been closed to vehicles for nearly three years.

The bridge was shut due to structural issues and is now only open for pedestrians and cyclists, meaning a minimum diversion of ten miles.

But locals say the lights now no longer work on the bridge, which compounds the issues they’re facing.

In January, more than a hundred residents gathered on the bridge, urging the council to act, and since then, meetings between the two parties have been held.

The council is now exploring options, which include bolstering the existing structure, or creating a new crossing next to it, but as time ticks on, locals are growing increasingly frustrated at the pace.
