Elderly facing ‘digital exclusion’ as 15% lack technical skills

The Scottish Government says it welcomes the report and will consider its findings.

Some of the most vulnerable across Scotland are facing “digital exclusion” as more public services move online.

It’ll come as no surprise to people – particularly the elderly. It’s the myriad passwords, the links, the technical language.

And it’s not just a few, 15% – that’s nearly one in six of us – lack the technical skills to deal with everyday life.

The Auditor General for Scotland and the Accounts Commission say the Scottish Government needs to develop a long term action plan to tackle the problem.

For authorities and businesses it might mean progress and efficiencies. For too many people, though, it means they are excluded.
